Hmmmmm ! Kitchen, skincare , I don’t get it?? Well you heard the phrase that abs are made in the kitchen right? Why can’t the health of your skin come from within?
What we consume often reflects on our face. Be it acne, oily skin, or lack of fluids . It’s all relative. Healthier eating can drastically change ones appearance. When you’re eating good, you feel good.
I recently embarked on a meat free journey which lasted a month! It felt like a year. During my meat hiatus I noticed a few things.
I felt like, I was detoxing from medication. I was lethargic, bloated ( from eating so many vegetables) experiencing headaches and had the worst nausea you could imagine. After the first week and a half those side effects were gone as well as my sugar cravings . I immediately felt more energetic, and my desire for meat wasn’t as strong as before. As time went on I wondered what would happen if I personally never ate meat again? How would this affect me? My skin? Would reintroducing meat into a plant base diet cause acne?
For some this is the case 👉🏾 eating meat might trigger a breakout, as in general, plant-based diets are better for your skin. ... "Consuming IGF-1 has been linked to increased production of androgens in the body, which could lead to increased acne in some people”.
What the hell is IGF-1? Insulin-like growth factor 1, also called somatomedin C, is a hormone similar in molecular structure to insulin which plays an important role in childhood growth, and has anabolic effects in adults. IGF-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IGF1 gene.
According to Hyojin Kim and Sun Young Moon, it means Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 increases the expression of Inflammatory Biomarkers and Sebum production in Cultured Sebocytes ( oily skin and acne). Diet is considered to be one of the main factors influencing the induction and aggravation of acne, though this is still debatable.

Let me take you back to Tuesday 7/9/19 . When I received my hand delivered meal from the OWNER/Chef herself. I was greeted with a smile and enthusiasm for she knew I’d be hooked.
I was ready to dive in. But first……. I had to drive home ( I was outside of the normal delivery area) ask me if I cared ….Nope!
Upon arrival at my house, I set up shop in my backyard . I created a vibe for myself and ripped open the bag like a child on Christmas morning. I had ordered the vegan tacos. These weren’t just any tacos, they were the Organic Lajuan Street Tacos, that came with side dishes that would make you close your eyes and sing because they were so good. Vegan elote salad, organic frijoles , homemade taco shells, fresh salsa, and all the trimmings you could imagine. The X-Factor was a miniature bottle of rosé 💕.
There’s a possibility I squeaked when I saw this. I mean she thought if everything. As I ripped the bag like a savage there was hand written note that asked what was your high and low of the day? This made me pause for a second ( I was hella hungry) I ask my children the same question . At this point I was convinced Rebecca was a friend from way back when . Like damn does she know me? That question made me smile. In fact her presenting this meal was my high. It was something that was unexpected and much needed. The joy of preparing a meal is knowing what happiness it brings to others. That’s what she does. You can taste the joy, you can feel the smile and warmth in every bite. Rebecca puts time in to make sure your dining in experience is that of luxury and comfort, that only your home can bring. We all love going out, but eating a great meal at home with music and loved ones or alone has it’s charm . If that doesn’t do it for ya, add champagne and boom💥 you will start feeling better.
I look forward to many more meals . Continuing a healthy lifestyle. Supporting a sister and her entrepreneurial spirt and growth.

Rebecca Lujan Loveless was born and raised on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawai'i. The culinary roots of Hawai'i are influenced by the ancient recipes of Japan, China, Philippines, Korea, Portugal and of course the Pacific Islands. Coming from a Hispanic home she was immersed in an eclectic foodie experience from the beginning.
As a young professional, Rebecca worked in international development and urban community development. She traveled the world working in communities that have been ravaged by poverty and war. Some of her most cherished memories of these years are the many meals she helped prepare with women in kitchens in India, Malawi, Thailand, South Africa and many other countries with rich, delicious cuisines. She's cooked in Paris and in the Greek Isles but she firmly believes that whether cooking over an open fire or in the kitchen of a five star restaurant, the most delicious food usually comes from some one cooking for people they love.
Rebecca now uses her vast travel experience and the skills she's learned from Mamas, Aunties and Grandmas around the globe to cook delicious and nutritious meals for your family. She infuses aloha (love) into every aspect of her menu so you and your loved ones can enjoy a meal that turns into a meaningful experience.
